Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. She reported on a variety of interesting stories such as arm control, budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal. She also traveled extensively with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
